Meet Kwame Kilpatrick.

He is the Mayor of Detroit, Michigan.

The city of Detroit has the highest crime rate in the country. In 2002, the amount of rapes in Detroit was twice the national average, the auto theft rate was over five times the national average, and the murder rate was eight times the national average.[1]

The city of Detroit has the worst police force in the country. The US Justice Department, in a 2003 investigation, said they "have never seen problems as embedded and entrenched as in the DPD."[2]

Last week, Mayor Kilpatrick announced that the city was facing $230 million in debt, and some job cuts would be made soon. He asked that federal employees volunteer for a 10% pay cut to help cover the deficiency.

On the tail of this, it was found that one of the city's pointless new departments, Civil Rights Integrity Bureau (CRIB; sigh), had a $200,000 refurnishing with luxury furnishing and flatscreen televisions.[3]

Also, it was discovered that Kwame Kilpatrick used $25,000 of city funds for a one-year lease a $57,000 Lincoln Navigator; so his wife would have something nice to drive -- or be driven in. That's just under 50% of the car's actual value for a one-year lease.

When an investigator from the local television news (WXYZ) questioned Mayor Kilpatrick about the Navigator on camera, he repeated the line "We can talk live any time you want." nine times, then had his body guard drag the reporter 20 feet and slam him against a wall.[4] This was all on camera. Detroit was the first industrialized city in the nation, yet in a century it has become the worst city in the nation. There is no tourism in Detroit itself, no big business in Detroit itself, and nothing to do in Detroit itself. City taxes are so bloated within Detroit that no business can or should stay open downtown. The people in charge of the city are just milking their position, getting cushy jobs for their friends and using taxpayer money to fund their care-free lifestyle and their unbelievable collection of zoot suits and diamond earrings.

The only Detroit landmarks are a statue of a black, ungloved fist punching toward the streets and four ugly, underused skyscrapers built by Ford, bought by GM.

Detroit is, and always has been run by gangsters. During the prohibition, gangsters would smuggle alcohol from Canada to Detroit in boats by crossing the Detroit River. Jimmy Hoffa started the Teamsters to unionize shipping from Detroit to Chicago, and the further Midwest.

The Detroit Pistons' home court is in Auburn Hills, Michigan.

The Ford Motor Company is now located in Dearborn, Michigan.

Daimler-Chrysler is located in Auburn Hills, Michigan.

From 1999 to 2008, it is projected that student enrollment in Detroit public schools will drop by over 50%. [6]. Three hundred seventy two Detroit Public School teachers were fired last month, on Christmas Eve. [7]
