Even More Store Updates...

...I'll start being a writer again when you all stop giving me your money.

In 7 days, over 100 of the retractable iPod cables have sold. I'm on my 3rd shipment now. They're cool, aren't they?

In other cable news, I added a few mini USB (5-pin) retractable cables to the store. They can be used to sync/connect about thirty billion devices, and they can charge quite a few things that I know of: Creative MP3 players (I believe), a bunch of newer phones including the Motorola RAZR and the new Cingular 8125 I just got today.

Just today I got in something I was pretty shocked to find from the distributor where I get the cables from: 9v iPod chargers. I didn't know these things even existed, and apparently nobody else does either because they aren't carried in stores, I guess they're brand new.

While you could say it's kind of a "competitor", I've decided to carry them for all the people who want a 9v USB charger just for their iPod and/or don't think they can handle building the kit from scratch. Judging from some of the emails I've gotten, I'd say a good lot of people who've ordered kits aren't technical enough to power through the instructions to make a working kit. This is for them.

They're only $8.50, and they're small enough that they can fit on your keychain (thus the included keychain and hook clip).

Just wondering - wiht the miniUSB charger charge a RAZR for sure? I've tried others and they won't charge. I think motorola did something so only their charger works.

Hey Mike, i dont think motorolla allows any charging through the USB port, not all USBs allow charging btw

I said Motorolas don't have USB charging like a week ago. Don't you people read? Gosh, and I'm so awesome. Pay attention next time.

Most devices that have a mini USB port use it for both charging and data (for example, my bluetooth GPS receiver).

My RAZR does get charged from the miniUSB port, but only when hooked up to moto hardware.

Anyways, at least for the RAZR, motorola screwed the compatition because the didn't follow the USB standard and put some voltage sensing into the other pins of the USB port so the phone knows if it's hooked to a computer, wall charger, or car charger. Of course, any standard USB to miniUSB cord won't work, because it doesn't send voltage over the other pins (I think it's something like a 200kohm resister hooked to the other pins, I think).

So the RAZR will only charge with moto's hardware, or a standard USB-miniUSB cable hooked to a computer that has Motorola Phone Tools installed.
